What We Do

Hillside Residence has grown from a desire to help our community since before its opening in 1999.

For over two decades, we served as an assisted living and retirement facility for seniors, specializing in dementia care. It was our privilege to provide home-like, comfortable and secure care to seniors. In 2022, we closed our doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After closing, we saw both the urgent need for temporary housing for the incoming Ukrainian refugees, and the assistance that would be needed with their settlement in Canada.

Working with Grassroots and the Jakobstettel House in St. Jacobs to learn more about the community's needs - what services and what experience was required to support individuals and families arriving in Southwestern Ontario.

After much care and thorough review, the space was reimagined as a short stay transitional home for newcomers to Canada, fleeing their country due to factors outside of their control. Hillside Residence reopened our doors in January, 2023.
